Charter for Compassion

Posted in Uncategorized by rewiringangel on July 15, 2009

The Council of Conscience is currently crafting the Charter for Compassion

People of all nations, all faiths, all backgrounds, submitted their words to the Charter. From February to 24-26, the Council of Conscience sorted through and discussed the world’s contributions to determine the final version of the Charter. The final Charter will be revealed in late 2009.

By recognizing that the Golden Rule is fundamental to all world religions, the Charter for Compassion can inspire people to think differently about religion. This Charter is a collaborative project and everyone is encouraged to participate.

Continue the conversation by sharing your own story of compassion. Nominate religious leaders to sign the Charter. Register to receive updates and news on other ways to participate.

The Charter does NOT assume:
  • all religions are the same
  • compassion is the only thing that matters in religion
  • religious people have a monopoly on compassion

The Charter DOES affirm that:

  • compassion is celebrated in all major religious, spiritual and ethical traditions
  • the Golden Rule is our prime duty and cannot be limited to our own political, religious or ethnic group
  • therefore, in our divided world, compassion can build common ground
