Rewiring the System

Knotting My Story With History

hahahahaha…There was a time when this Swami, famous from his contact with the Beatles, owned the ‘business’.  It was a monumental vegetarian hotel in Asbury Park on the Jersey Shore, (and not the crude jersey shore tv show!)

It is amazing and surprising to see a meditation leader and hear funny conversation with the word ‘fuck’ spilling out of his mouth. I remember a rock group who made a song that had a large number of the word’ fuck’, Fred Durst, Limp Bizket. it was fuckin amazing to see and hear him in concert and have all the high school kids teetering that the song was a legal way to say fuck at home! what a trip. Durst also used this word to get attention. Durst wanted to get men to see that being responsible for their actions, woman, and the stability of the family unit.

I heard the impassioned speech Fred Durst delivered at the height of his fame during his bands performance at the 1999 Woodstock Reunion.  He said that every man should not allow a woman to stand alone, every man should support a woman, their woman, or woman world wide, on his shoulders.  This was the only way to save the world by saving families.  Two furniture movers from Pennsylvania asked me if they could hoist me on their shoulders and up I went into the sea of waving arms and fingers swaying to the sonic gift that real ‘rock and roll’  delivered to an audience of 40 thousand. It will always be real, real rock and roll.

This event had to be held on the abandoned army ‘star wars’ testing tarmac for security reasons.  My traveling companion, I brought along on my Phoenix Press Pass was a brilliant acid head who turned to drugs because of what he had done because he got smacked because he had not acted right! to write about the Woodstock 99 four-day concert, is a physicist. It was certainly surreal to hear his stories of death and destruction on a global scale while walking around a four sound stage venue. A half-tented movie theater sat several thousand people. My ‘date’ actually worked in one of the now abandoned buildings at this site. He was part of a team who did the science which took human ingenuity where it should never have gone. He told me he left The Government to work on planetariums because the idea of directing bombs from one of the stratospheres on to farms and farmers, parents and children, them and us, became just too horrible. He got to see the underbelly of world leaders all around the globe.  The way governments work, he was sure, would eventually make harmonious governance impossible.  I see his prediction playing itself out in the grinding halt between the big mouths and the other big mouths who are parading as newsmakers in our Congress and on the world stage. What can we do to break out of the confrontational grid?

The public appearance of a Meditation Teacher, on You Tube, mouthing a word in the apparent shift from  a ‘belief’ in something bigger than oneself, to describing the grinding loins as a spark to conflagrate the corral!  Sex is hot! Use the words of sex to burn down restrictive society! Seize the day! Some say the world will end in fire, say Carl Sandberg! Bring on the friction!

I believe that Chaucer used the word ‘fuck’ in the Canterbury tales. The Old English language gives honor to the ‘ green sleeves’ courtesans who got their arms green from balancing on their elbows to receive the enormous fuck from the Holy Grail travelers.  Princeton University has the most terrific Old English department. I listened to the past chair of that department read to a large audience in a big church the Chaucer’s Tales. It was delivered in syncopated rhythm that rivaled the smoothness of  Duke Ellington to the forward fusion of  Miles Davis.  Fusion Jazz what came to be known as the Canterbury Scene!

Osho, who turned his passion into this You Tube in your face video was born Chandra Mohan Jain , A Hindi, (11 December 1931 – 19 January 1990), also known as Acharya Rajneesh from the 1960s onwards, calling himself Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh during the 1970s and 1980s and taking the name Osho in 1989, was an Indian mystic and spiritual teacher who enjoyed an international following.

His syncretic teachings emphasized the importance of meditation as the bases of understanding, awareness, always acting with Love for oneself and others. Starting with Love for yourself.  Life is a celebration, using creativity and humor – qualities that he viewed were being suppressed by pushy few people in public positions who are putting mayonnaise on everything demanding adherence to static belief systems, religious tradition and over tidy socialization. His teachings have had a notable impact on Western New Age thought and relaxing communication within society between the different socio economic strata. Rajneesh’s popularity has increased markedly since his death.

Osho was a professor of philosophy and travelled throughout India in the 1960s as a public speaker. His views against socialism, and institutionalized religion were controversial.

He also advocated a more open attitude towards sexuality, a stance that earned him the sobriquet “sex guru” in the Indian and later the international press. Sex, after all is a clean classic system as a drive for mankind to replicate ourselves.

In 1970 Rajneesh settled for a while in Mumbai. He began initiating disciples (known as neo-sannyasins) and took on the role of a spiritual teacher. In his discourses, he reinterpreted writings of religious traditions, mystics and philosophers from around the world.

Moving to Pune in 1974, he established an Ashram that attracted increasing numbers of Westerners. The ashram was a bee hive offered therapies derived from the Human Potential Movement to its Western audience and made news in India and abroad, chiefly because of its permissive climate and the provocative lectures. By the end of the 1970s, there were mounting tensions with the Indian government and the surrounding society.

In 1981, Osho relocated to the United States and his followers established an ‘international’ community, later known as Rajneeshpuram, in the state of Oregon. Within a year the leadership of the commune became embroiled in a conflict with local residents, primarily over land use, which was marked by hostility on both sides.

Rajneesh Ji flowed funds into a large collection of Rolls-Royce motorcars. I remember pictures of a hill side parking over a hundred RR’s of every color to match his whim when going out for a ride with a selected student.  The Oregon commune collapsed in 1985 when he revealed that the commune leadership had committed a number of serious crimes, including a bioterror attack (food contamination) on the citizens of The Dalles. I remember that not so ‘big’ event of the small town police against the unwelcomed newcomers! It was them against the others in an effort to keep change from coming too close and perhaps irrevocably changing the area and society.

Now calling himself, ‘Osho’, he was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with immigration violations. He was deported from the United States in accordance with a plea bargain. Twenty-one countries denied him entry.  Osho had to travel the world, giving talks, before returning to Pune, where he died in 1990. His ashram is today known as the Osho International Meditation Resort.

It is fun to knot history with my story. Am I my brothers keeper?   This is my disclaimer for posting this ‘F’ You Tube.
