Earlier today I was in line at the local Cosco Big Box store. I was being generally impatient since I had one pound of Cobodola Blue Brie and every other shopper had overflowing carts of products both digestive and elective. (What do people do with all that stuff?) Behind me were four energetic athletic Italians jabbering in brisk Italian probably about me since they made motions to start a conversation. What a humorous event, I thought as I directed a question to the closest of the four. “What do you think of Berlusconi?” He chuckled and in less than a second without any real thought he says,” Trump is your Berlusconi.” Berlusconi’s political rise was rapid and surrounded by controversy. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time and appointed as Prime Minister following the March 1994 Parliamentary elections. As of 2011, Forbes magazine has ranked him as the 118th richest man in the world with a net worth of US$7.8 Billion.

Trump’s extravagant lifestyle and outspoken manner have made him a celebrity for years.  His yearly salary is estimated at $50 Million and his net worth according to Forbes (2011) to be $2.7 Billion
Here in the early years of the twenty-first century, the American elite is a walking disaster. Perhaps this is a world wide attraction to the fleeting bites of material possessions? Elite in leadership actions and activities are in every way less capable than its predecessors. In general we are less in touch with American history and culture, less personally honest, less productive, less inventive, less forward looking, less freedom loving, less sacrificially humanitarian… Americans are unable to be the Adult in charge within their very own homes and are therefore, less effective at and less committed to child rearing. It is in this continent wide atmosphere that people who are not worthy of being followed are interested in public office. The action of service in public office is not paramount. You can not immagine going out on the stump to get the vote if you are not personally monetarily wealthy.

I am very disappointed in the current American leadership, both locally and nationally. I tune in to C-Span to listen to the action in the houses of congress and the various committees and feel the effect of the SPIN Masters at work.  Shall I seriously consider voting for Berlusconi like characters? Or philandering one or more men in the dotage of their days looking to ‘just do it’ one more time. The Google this name ‘S’ from Jersey continues to imagine that anyone cares for his uncaring policies. I am looking for a candidate who walks in my shoes for a while. I long for a Populist elected official who believes in his bones and being that he is his brothers keeper.

I must say that after the Nuclear disaster in Japan the Feinstein Committee on Nuclear preparedness was exceptionally good. The hard questions were asked from all but one of the Senators. I was impressed at the high level of research into the actual facts and knowledge of the process of nuclear construction and energy delivery, that the conversation between the questions and the answers. The Commission spokespersons were very covert with the truth. The Senators kept hammering at the facts to bring out, for the public record. Though not getting clear answers, the dance around the information really helped me see the dangers and the problem of safe nuclear energy.

On this stage, for the Overture portion of this National ‘Elect An Official’ concert,  every four years rambles and marches some dangerously entertaining characters. Listen carefully and you can hear the murder and mayhem to follow:

Overture to Don Giovanni (1787), one of Mozart’s most well-known pieces. (6:49
