What does it mean to the world to be a light ?

I sat in a concert of Mr. Terry Riley playing a long form piano piece. Weaving through the sound was s sliver rope.

It connected Terry and a woman who sat near me on the front row of seats at the Berkeley Museum Of Art.

It was a privilege being in the spiritual glow.

Please come and be filled with the infinite glow of love in action.

SAN FRANCISCO, March 11, 2015-In honor of Terry Riley’s 80th birthday, the San Francisco-based, Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet / Kronos Performing Arts Association announces a three-day festival, June 26 – 28, featuring performances of several of the composer’s most significant and rarely-performed works, with special guest performers Zakir Hussain, Wu Man, The Living Earth Show, Gyan Riley and Terry Riley himself.

The festival features four world premieres, including a series of five new one-minute commissioned pieces written in celebration of Riley’s birthday. At the festival’s conclusion, Riley’s monumental Salome Dances for Peace will be performed in its entirety by Kronos for the first time in 20 years. KRONOS PRESENTS: Terry Riley Festival is the inaugural program of KRONOS PRESENTS, a new initiative that will showcase the organization’s expansive curatorial vision, far-ranging musical collaborators and broad musical aesthetics, through an annual festival and other events.

Kronos Quartet and Terry Riley share a musical partnership that dates back to the late 1970s at Mills College where Riley taught composition, improvisation and Hindustani classical music, and where the quartet was ensemble-in-residence. Since then, Kronos has commissioned 27 works by Riley, more than from any other single composer, resulting in a long and fruitful artistic relationship.

“This festival is an opportunity to experience the breadth of work created by a true American icon and California original, Terry Riley” says Kronos’ founder and artistic director David Harrington. “In three nights we will celebrate Terry’s 80 years by gathering together many friends to explore the range of his musical interests through the lens of our 35-year artistic relationship. This festival is a rare moment to honor Terry’s spirit of generosity, his unwavering belief in peace and his artistic leadership, which is apparent in the impact his work has had on Kronos and the world of music. Happy birthday Terry!

Friday, June 26 | 7:30pm: Happy 80th Birthday Terry!

The three-day festival opens on Friday, June 26 with Kronos joined by Zakir Hussain, Wu Man and other surprise guests. Three of Riley’s works are on the program for the evening, including the composer’s first commission for Kronos, Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector (1980). One Earth, One People, One Love, which features the recorded voice of Alice Walker, was written in the aftermath of the events of September 11, 2001, and is part of Riley’s evening-length composition Sun Rings, which was commissioned by NASA in 2002.

Riley’s third piece on Friday’s program, a Kronos commission from 2004, is The Cusp of Magic. Kronos and Wu Man, the world’s premier pipa virtuoso will perform the first of the work’s six movements.

Friday’s program continues with the world premiere of Oberek for Terry Riley by Polish composer Aleksander Kościów, written for Kronos as a musical gift for the celebration of Riley’s 80th birthday. The piece is based on a traditional Polish folk dance, the oberek, and represents, in the words of the composer, “the human need for pure joy.” Riley has had a deep interest in North Indian classical music for many years. Tabla virtuoso Hussain will round out the evening’s concert performing solo in Riley’s honor.

The festival’s opening night culminates with a post-concert celebration, attended by Riley, Kronos, guest artists and friends (separate ticket, $80). Proceeds from this event will benefit the Kronos Education and Community Program, which provides outreach and residency activities for a wide range of participants in conjunction with Kronos performances at home in the Bay Area and around the world.

Saturday, June 27 | 7:30pm: Kronos, Terry & Friends

Kronos will perform three world premieres on the second evening of the festival. The program will include the premiere of a series of five one-minute pieces, commissioned by Kronos, and written in honor of Riley by composers Jherek Bischoff, Caleb Burhans, Maggie Payne, Greg Saunier, and Aleksandra Vrebalov.

In the second premiere of the evening Kronos will be joined by special guests Travis Andrews and Andy Meyerson of The Living Earth Show, an electro-classical chamber ensemble based in San Francisco. Together they will perform a new piece inspired by one of Riley’s most famous works, A Rainbow in Curved Air (1969).

Rounding out the evening is a new work for guitar, keyboard and string quartet by Riley’s son, guitarist/composer Gyan Riley. Father and son will join Kronos in this performance.

Sunday, June 28 | 7:00pm: Salome Dances for Peace

The festival culminates Sunday evening with a performance of Riley’s two-hour Salome Dances for Peace, commissioned by Kronos in 1985. The epic quartet, triple the length of Beethoven’s longest, incorporates a mixture of styles in keeping with Riley’s eclectic interests: jazz, blues, North Indian raga, Middle Eastern scales, minimalist patterns and many other styles of music. The piece offers a retelling of the story of Salome as a sorceress in the service of world peace. Biblical legend is joined by ancient myth and stories from Native American cultures to portray Salome’s attainment of powers in order to fight the forces of evil.

For more than 40 years, San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet-David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello)-has combined a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually re-imagining the string quartet experience. In the process, Kronos has become one of the world’s most celebrated and influential ensembles, performing thousands of concerts worldwide, releasing more than 50 recordings, collaborating with many of the world’s most eclectic composers and performers, and commissioning more than 850 works and arrangements for string quartet. A Grammy winner, Kronos is also the only recipient of both the Polar Music Prize and the Avery Fisher Prize. With a staff of ten, the non-profit Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) manages all aspects of Kronos’ work, including the commissioning of new works, concert tours and home-season performances, and education programs.

Terry Riley first came to prominence in 1964 when he subverted the world of tightly organized atonal composition then in fashion. With the groundbreaking In C – a work built upon steady pulse throughout; short, simple repeated melodic motives; and static harmonies-Riley achieved an elegant and non-nostalgic return to tonality. In demonstrating the hypnotic allure of complex musical patterns made of basic means, he produced the seminal work of Minimalism.

Riley’s facility for complex pattern-making is the product of his virtuosity as a keyboard improviser. He quit formal composition following In C in order to concentrate on improvisation, and in the late 1960s and early ’70s he became known for weaving dazzlingly intricate skeins of music from improvisations on organ and synthesizer. At this time, Riley also devoted himself to studying North Indian vocal techniques under the legendary Pandit Pran Nath, and a new element entered his music: long-limbed melody. From his work in Indian music, moreover, he became interested in the subtle distinctions of tuning that would be hard to achieve with a traditional classical ensemble.

Riley began notating music again in 1979 when both he and the Kronos Quartet were on the faculty at Mills College in Oakland. By collaborating with Kronos, he discovered that his various musical passions could be integrated, not as pastiche, but as different sides of similar musical impulses that still maintained something of the oral performing traditions of India and jazz. Riley’s first quartets were inspired by his keyboard improvisations, but his knowledge of string quartets became more sophisticated through his work with Kronos, combining rigorous compositional ideas with a more performance-oriented approach.

This three-decade-long relationship has yielded 27 works for string quartet, including a concerto for string quartet, The Sands, which was the Salzburg Festival’s first-ever new music commission; Sun Rings, a multimedia piece for choir, visuals and space sounds, commissioned by NASA; and The Cusp of Magic, for string quartet and pipa. Kronos’ album Cadenza on the Night Plain, a collection of music by Riley, was selected by both Time and Newsweek as one of the 10 Best Classical Albums of the Year in 1988. The epic five-quartet cycle, Salome Dances for Peace, was selected as the #1 Classical Album of the Year by USA Today and was nominated for a Grammy in 1989.

KRONOS PRESENTS: Terry Riley Festival is made possible in part by generous support from Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund and the Board of Directors of the Kronos Performing Arts Association.

THE Search for spirituality is interesting to people from every walk of life and every age group. It is time for inner glow, the beauty from the heart out to the surface. Taking good care of myself and decorate my surface is essential. Dressing with care, taking care of my skin and scent for both expression and frolic is fun. Finding new trends in the manufacturing sector in cosmetics and fabrics is an exciting process.

Today I had the glamorous adventure into the world with the people who create beauty and the trends in the fashion industry.

OhMy, Prai eye cream goes on as a spun light gel and disappears into my skin, leaving it the texture and softness of a baby’s skin! I am amazed to try this. I truly recommended these products

Consciousness: The Entire Universe

What do you think causes consciousness?  (Hint: the entire universe is conscious)

This morning I was reading a reference to animals having consciousness from the point of view of the spirals of planes of consciousness. This is true up to a point. Animals have what I would refer to as Animal Consciousness in that they have the emotional realizations and the ability to see the 500 variations that a particle traveled before it got to their noses, but are not able to get past the atmospheres into the all inclusive areas where galaxies spin.

I believe that the real understanding Of the ‘Lightness Of Being’, the opened being of awake consciousness, comes from the effort of Going to the GYM FOR YOUR Brain/Mind. Do exercise by using the brain to think. For ages in all sorts of forms, leaders in meditation, science, medicine, physics, etc, have suggested in the language of their expertise, to go out into nature and listen. Listen carefully and after a while you will start to hear the particles of all life in the flow of what I call Mother Nature.

Are the senses taking in this information at the speed of light. Let us test this miles per gallon hypothesis together all around the world by going out into Nature and sitting still and just listening. What the world needs at this intersection of Time and Space is a, ‘Lady Tasting Tea’, as Dr Muriel Bristol did. A highly refined group to both study and to prove scientifically that Kindness is the rule of life. And is the truest most reliable value in understanding how consciousness works and moves. * Wikipedia:

What the Lady will be Tasting is Love In Action. Love binds the particles. Just as the discoveries of the flow of electrons ushered in the electronic telecommunication age, Love, when comprehended as a functioning whole, will change our understanding of everything. The minions with their mighty swords are at war with the forces of progress and change. Loud empty barrels, who want to as hold solid, the past by the very force of Hot Air. Their desires are to control humanity’s thinking, feeling, and the privacy of their very faces and bodies. You hear their booming because they are making a lot of noise.

Those who have an insight about the future must not be swept aside or drowned out of the conversation. Perhaps you are able to be a light on the scientific path by giving calculations that some of the few, who can chew on numbers can translate, with out affronts or new age fog, out to the general readers? I believe that through the daily act of focusing your mind on one activity, perhaps meditating on an idea or being mindful of only your breath, will open many doors into the many levels of consciousness.

Safe Food / Read Bar Codes

HOW TO READ BAR CODES… (everyone must know)

With all the food and pet products now coming from China, it is best to make sure you read label at the supermarket and especially when buying food products. Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located. The whole world is concerned about China-made “black-hearted goods”.

Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China ? The world is also concerned about GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) foods; steroid fed animals (ex: 45 days old broiler chicken).

It is important to read the bar code to track its origin. How to read Bar Codes….interesting !

If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 690, 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.
471 is Made in Taiwan .
If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 00-09 then it’s made or sourced in USA.

This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products “MADE IN CHINA”, so they don’t show from which country it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode –

Remember if the first 3 digits are:
690, 691, 692 … then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 – 09 … USA and CANADA
30 – 37 … FRANCE
40 – 44 … GERMANY
471 …….. Taiwan
45 or 49 ……..JAPAN
489………..HONG KONG
50 ………. UK
57 ………DENMARK
471……… is Made in TAIWAN (see sample)
740……….745 – CENTRAL AMERICA

All 480 Codes are Made in the PHILIPPINES. Share it!!!

Guardian Mayonnaise: Elect Greenwald

Glen Greenwald, I want to thank you….

I want you to know that I support your work to stop the fake security masking truth. Thank you for publishing the stories about Prism and the other sweeping privacy invasion.

Please…Let me know how I can with my one individual action join with all those who are wanting to reach critical mass. Together, Mr. Greenwald, help us get together to stop the global Tyranny. Let our American Government know that what Obama has done and continues to do that ignores Several Amendments of the Constitution.  Our Founding Fathers wrote the constitution to assure individual and group civil rights and boundaries to freedom.

I do not want to wonder why almost all the elected officials are listening to my life. I am unhappy that my President and all government servants feel it is ok to catch my every key stroke, every whisper, and every movement I make.

Bradley Manning must be released from prison. It is time that the Nobel Award Representatives award Private Manning for having the courage to let all world citizens that they are being watched in a totally illegal way.

Now is the time for the infinite power of creativity generated by privacy and personal freedom.

Any Minute Mindfulness

I am standing in the glistening azure water at the Lions Pool in a park in Oakland California. I have escaped from a family farces of verbal abuse that felt like a energy vampire had sucked all the joy out of my being.  Now I was standing in the water saying to my self over and over, ‘I Am Here Now.’ It felt like heavy lifting. Just saying the words of this mindful sentence was like dragging an entire building of historical emotions into the proper receptacle. That was then and this is now.  I was not going to get lost again. I had to tell myself that what had happened was not happening now. I struggled to take the time to look around at my surroundings and get my balance. I was working on being Mindful. At any minute now, I was mindful.

This is such a good thing!  That the word Mindfulness has entered the main stream vocabulary. It is a sign the masses have a notion that they have a brain service station.  At last I have some glimmer of understanding that my mind has some directing process in life.

Like driving in the evening, the headlights on a car serve to show us the path ahead. The actual understanding that our mind can function in this way to help us see where we are, and what is ahead, is a wonderful step. This is the first step for peacefulness. This works from the inside out for both the individual and global life.

This is True: Being A Good Person

This is True: Being A Good Person

Using the word, Mindfulness, in work places and in schools is a sign that populations are becoming aware of the existence of a mind. It shows there is an interest and hunger to become familiar with the concept of mind.  What is this aspect of my being and what does it actually do? The inner thoughts and tools are very ancient. You can search the concept and how it developed in India.

HHDL gave a teaching this year which you can take time to watch:

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.
~ Audre Lorde

For this, (Mindfulness), we have to forget things like “I should be mindful of this or that”. If you are mindful, you are already creating a separation (“I – am – mindful – of – ….”). Don’t be mindful, please! When you walk, just walk. Let the walk walk. Let the talk talk. Let the eating eat, the sitting sit, the work work. Let sleep sleep

Hurry up, at any minute I will be mindful!

Only Crazy People tell pregnant woman horror stories.  Every woman who is having her first child hears almost all horror stories. In fact after I ask ‘is this your first pregnancy’ the look on their face is one of Oh No Not Another ! The I say it is only crazy people who tell you horror stories and that more babies are born than all the crazy stories.

Look around and see how populated the world is and each person has a Mother!  It is like a spewing evil neon slime that has been festering in the biblical Dark Crow innards of unhappy people who never have or will forget the slightest paper-cut.

The kindest thing I can say is that these cronies are fearful of the unknown and want everyone to share in their pain.

Why don’t woman look forward to giving birth? The baby comes into this world using the same female organ which has the awesome Orgasm. You are feeling great and loving the orgasm process, why worry about the delivery?

Who Is Funding Grover Norquist? Pretty Much Who You’d Expect

November 29th, 2012 2:13 pm Jason Sattler

On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes made an excellent point about the man whose shadow appears to loom over the entire so-called “fiscal cliff” debate — Grover Norquist:

Just so we’re clear: the source of R’s opposition to higher taxes on wealthy people isn’t Grover Norquist, it’s wealthy people.

Norquist’s American Taxpayer Pledge, which is signed by an overwhelming majority of the Republicans in the House and Senate, has effectively changed the tax debate in America to the point that’ we’re only discussing tax increases because the Bush tax breaks are about to expire. And it only works because Norquist has the billionaire funders he needs to back his threat of defeating anyone who dares to defy the pledge.

The Nation‘s Lee Fang looked at the funding for Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform and found that in 2010 — the year of the Tea Party’s epic landslide victory — two-thirds of the group’s funding came from just two “dark money” non-profits: The Center to Protect Patients’ Rights and Crossroads GPS.

The Center to Protect Patients’ Rights is run by Sam Noble, who has been called an “operative” for the infamous Koch Brothers. But a direct connection between the group and the brothers hasn’t been established because the group doesn’t have to list its donors. “The group doled out $44 million in 2010 to the likes of Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform, the Club for Growth, and Americans for Prosperity,” according to Mother Jones’ Andy Kroll.

Crossroads GPS is Karl Rove’s “non-profit.”  According to Fang, “The only known donors are folks like Paul Singer, the ‘vulture’ hedge fund king who benefits enormously from tax strategies like the carried interest loophole.”

Of course, the idea of never raising taxes ever is already popular with Republicans, or no one would have signed Norquist’s pledge. But now when Republicans think about having to break it, they know the people who may be funding their primary opponents may include names like Rove and Koch.

Thanks to Norquist and his billionaire backers, the richest have a tax rate on income that’s about one-third of what it was in the 1950s. And the richest, who often take most of their income in the form of capital gains, often pay a lower tax rate than Warren Buffett’s secretary.

The result of what The New York Times‘ Nick Kristof calls “A Failed Experiment“? “… the top 1 percent of Americans now have greater collective net worth than the entire bottom 90 percent.”

That gives the rich plenty of money with which to keep Republicans very attentive to demands of Grover Norquist.

The three of us were sitting in the sunny booth in Sconehenge.  I had devoured the chili relleno while sitting next to my daughter and across the street across the table from her father. More beautiful than the delicious morsels is the immortality of  better relations between the generations.

It was, looking over the time, after all those years, my actions and not the words of my instructions and reprimands that molded my child. It is the beginning of a Legend, “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.”  So many people have children while being afraid to have fun building the next generation. The Helicopter Mom or the Asian Tiger are popular manifestations of this doubt and fear. Why not look and listen to the young human in your midst and help this youngster grow believing this world is a good and safe place.
