Rewiring the System

Occupy: The Creative Catalyst

I left journalism in 1999 when both editors and writers had directions based on the bottom line of the owners. It is not just Fear, though the spin on the ‘news’ is to brew doubt into calcifying fear so that the killing of humanity from poisoning bees to owning seeds ends our garden of Eden. The Nestles Co. started buying up wells and springs in the late 1960’s and privatizing water starting in 1971. They announced that water is no longer a human right. Who followed that thread?

They are US. We must use Occupy as a creative catalyst and climb out of the demise without blaming the corporations. That is just lazy hateful support for the criminals.

The Clintons fostered the climate which allowed our world wide economic collapse. They wrote the law that opened up the possibilities for derivatives. Clinton announced that what the transportation systems needed was a 4.00$ dollar gallon of gas as the foundation of control. Did you read about those actions or just about his under the desk in the oval office prankster-ness? We reached the global co2 cliff in 1970. No news media or public servant stood up and magnetized for critical mass. Remember the now famous Eisenhower speech?

In his 1961 farewell address to the nation, Eisenhower expressed his concerns about future dangers of massive military spending, especially deficit spending, and coined the term “military-industrial-congressional complex“.

None of the true leaders listened and just followed the money. We are doomed not just because there are no journalists Standing Up, but we are a global community of people living against goodness and working against preserving the beauty of our Big Blue Pearl.

Any Minute Mindfulness

I am standing in the glistening azure water at the Lions Pool in a park in Oakland California. I have escaped from a family farces of verbal abuse that felt like a energy vampire had sucked all the joy out of my being.  Now I was standing in the water saying to my self over and over, ‘I Am Here Now.’ It felt like heavy lifting. Just saying the words of this mindful sentence was like dragging an entire building of historical emotions into the proper receptacle. That was then and this is now.  I was not going to get lost again. I had to tell myself that what had happened was not happening now. I struggled to take the time to look around at my surroundings and get my balance. I was working on being Mindful. At any minute now, I was mindful.

This is such a good thing!  That the word Mindfulness has entered the main stream vocabulary. It is a sign the masses have a notion that they have a brain service station.  At last I have some glimmer of understanding that my mind has some directing process in life.

Like driving in the evening, the headlights on a car serve to show us the path ahead. The actual understanding that our mind can function in this way to help us see where we are, and what is ahead, is a wonderful step. This is the first step for peacefulness. This works from the inside out for both the individual and global life.

This is True: Being A Good Person

This is True: Being A Good Person

Using the word, Mindfulness, in work places and in schools is a sign that populations are becoming aware of the existence of a mind. It shows there is an interest and hunger to become familiar with the concept of mind.  What is this aspect of my being and what does it actually do? The inner thoughts and tools are very ancient. You can search the concept and how it developed in India.

HHDL gave a teaching this year which you can take time to watch:

http://dalailama.com/webcasts/post/288-opening-the-eye-of-the-new-awareness

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.
~ Audre Lorde

For this, (Mindfulness), we have to forget things like “I should be mindful of this or that”. If you are mindful, you are already creating a separation (“I – am – mindful – of – ….”). Don’t be mindful, please! When you walk, just walk. Let the walk walk. Let the talk talk. Let the eating eat, the sitting sit, the work work. Let sleep sleep

Hurry up, at any minute I will be mindful!

Looks Like An EKG

The other day a wonderful friend came over just to touch base and catch up. It is so nice in what has become a societal norm of digital communication to have actual face time together. Research in Face Time is proving to be an important constituent for human health. I get to experience actual “I Like You” that brings the sunshine into my home and heart. It is a shared tenderness.

He came over to also tell me about a position he will be starting in a few days or a week. And I am delighted for him since this is something I truly wanted to enact three years ago. I get to see how an idea when placed at a certain intersection takes time to blossom. The real truth is knowing how to place the idea and just who to communicate with and what is the right time.

My friend is going to do a great service which will change the way the first group will think and feel. This seed will move out to touch the others through the contacts the beginners have in their world.

Mindfulness is such a buzz work that the idea of MIND and what that is gets lost in a path of attention. I have seen this in meditation training where hungry seekers are told to just sit still in funny positions and eventually the pain will subside. Is this the path to the inner world, REALLY?

Embarking on a Mindfulness path has to begin with some sense of this ‘mind’ to use in the practice.  The Mind is a function of our human nervous system. It is the Thought Producing Pump. Take a look at an EKG. It shows various waves. It is the brain function in the same way that Blood pressure is the Heart function.

My brain pumps out 85 thoughts per second. Many of these thoughts are living communication from various parts of the body back to the brain. I am not consciously aware of all that is going on along my skin, but my brain is because of the communications system that is a traveling thought. Men have more sexual related thoughts every second than woman.

When I was invited to take a Citizens Police Academy 14 week class I learned that the police know that some men get aroused when a breeze moves their clothing. It is a part of this Mind Pumping thought producing that causes so many people to move into action with out giving it a thought. No real reason for doing or saying other than the urge pushed by uncontrolled thoughts.

The start and turn toward being mindful is grace. Your self respect is vital. Primarily, to take a time to look at and get to know what is going on in your mind. Before you try and struggle to control your thoughts about this and that, take time to actually look at the thoughts being generated. Sit and listen to your own scattered thoughts. Watch Your Mind. Close your eyes and see into the vast countryside of your mind as the thought butterfly flutters from this to that possibility.

Then you will be able to CHOOSE where to place your attention. You will not be struggling to stifle the process. Your mind and body will be moving together in the garden of delightful choices. You will choose to see the sun in your heart as a vast and calm moment of the true and real present. You will feel your body in your pants sitting on the chair. Since there is no struggle with any history or any desires for a goal in some imagined future, you will be in this present moment.

I look forward to continuing this conversation with all of you. Please write back with any questions or problems.

R E S P E C T

It’s preposterous how I let things, important projects, important letters, forms, calls, just slide away and out of the window of opportunity. Then I create a personality issue like low self esteem or blame. Letting life flow recklessly along without adequate direction is causing me pain.

One step to mitigate this pain problem is to generate an inner sense of peacefulness.  To Love inside your heart for yourself and gratitude that you are here now investigating the possibility of inner peace changes thinking. Peace, which you can send out as a general cloud of positive thought feeling and a prayer extended to all the people you encounter and all beings around the globe is a great tool for understanding how to feel peace. What does Peace feel like inside your body and mind?

The ‘Gratitude Attitude’, I first encountered in a meaningful way at a TED slash BIL conference in Monterey, California, either in 2005 or 2006. A very productive and gentle man gave a talk about generating gratitude by using the simple act of the manner you use signing your written communication.

Instead of ending with Sincerely, Best Wishes, or Best, which have lost any meaning and have become an ‘off handed’ thing clunking at the end of the conversation, you can choose to place a thought from your heart.

He impressed me with his valor and the importance for using a communication mode which becomes an action, that both woke the writer up to how very lucky they are, and to wish a good heart attitude (emoticon Hearted), to the reader.

He instructed us to try the experiment of signing our letters and texting with a feeling of goodness; With Respect and Gratitude, or With Gratitude and Respect.
I have adopted this ending for my letters. I feel good that I take a moment to allow myself to rest in the idea of just how lucky I am. Gratitude, not only to be breathing but to be living in a time and place where I am truly grateful for being able to write letters.

True Stability

Yes, there is a pointer of thought. Who among us spends more than an occasional moment or gives much thought to just where Thoughts  come from?  Where do we each place the pointer of our thinking mechanism? Finding this takes real mental effort and emotional control. The difficulty is finding the tip of a thought. Where in your brain and consciousness do thoughts start?  Some writers and thinkers have labeled that point a space in time. I once heard a man say that it is a GAP where choice functions.  He used the word GAP to give some idea of thinking as a stream of action that has a muscular structure and can be exercised to be in charge of the development of strength and stability of Mind. The vagaries of life happen though I choose the direction to tell my ‘thought’ where and how to travel.

It is like the difference of a cozy relationship and a marriage. How do people make the choice to do more than just visit with one another as humans who are dating and risk being together in cohabitation both physically and financially? The choice might be an emotional space we have all experienced at one level or another. Emotions are easier to understand than thinking.

When I drive, I am calm. It took many years of working on the space between the originating thought and a response either physical as accelerating or breaking or the emotional response which rises my blood pressure or an expression such as honking .

True stability is poise in the GAP. It is an ease with the short view of what is good right here and now in this moment in this lifetime and the long view of how this moment will attract and construct the future of individuals, Nations, and our very planet in the family of stars.

Being moderate and  trying to live simply certainly gives me a large screen to view the display of my actions and reactions. I am a beginner.

Occupy Wall Street 2012

I watched with Horror, the brutality of the Police on the people protesting the United States Oligarchy at the Occupy Wall Street site at the square in NYC this evening. How can our elected officials act against our very own American Constitution?

http://www.nycga.net/events/

Almost 200 protesters arrested TODAY!  The Mayors, the Governors and on up the elected ladder MUST be told that the People want Economic Equity. Change Will Happen. Can our current Government be part of the Healthy Future of our country and all global economies? I sat and watched first hand the brutality in Oakland and have posted pictures I took Thanksgiving day 2011 …. And Now Am I More Than A Regular Baby Boomer Citizen? I am a droplet, a tear drop, in the river of life. Who among those reading this are comfortable being uncomfortable? As Vivaldi eloquently sang out : When I die and go to heaven if you are not there I will not go in…. Stand with me and lets make the world we want.

Today or Tomorrow Night: Gore Vidal

Today Gore Vidal, October 3, 1925 – July 31, 2012),  passed out of his human skin and into the universal goodness. He was Proud to be called a Liberal.

Gore Vidal, the author, playwright, politician and commentator whose novels, essays, plays and opinions were stamped by his immodest wit and unconventional wisdom, died today  I became the person I now am, the way I think, how I behave, and what I believe because of the perspective given to me via Gore Vidal’s writing and speaking. I am a woman who is concentrating on conquering herself. This woman is Invincible!  I truly believe that when I am working on my behavior, both thoughts and actions, I am a light in the world. What is there to believe?  I used to be an atheist but I don’t not believe in it anymore.   There are so many Super Stars to look at on the outside of my protective skin, that it is impossible to choose anyone outside of my guiding principle. I am what I am because of who I am on the inside. Inside  on the outward facet is the journey that has no goal.

Today, on the public radio station, the thoughts that he, Gore Vidal, and I share, were Nationally aired.  The truth was never compromised as this mental giant called it like it IS. I remember the evening when I was no longer welcome to attend the local San Francisco Bay Area Mensa meeting because of what I said about Timothy McVeigh.  Even highly intelligent people can be deafened by the incessant pounding of sound bites. Today on my radio I hear my thoughts, what I believed motivated Timothy, to take a stand against the government and tell the truth about what was going on in Oklahoma City. It is an event clothed with honor as a proud courageous act of public resistance. Gore Vidal thought  and spoke fearlessly to show his character.  He was a Great Man.  He certainly was credible about Oklahoma because he chose to be called Gore in honor of his maternal grandfather, Thomas Gore, Democratic senator from Oklahoma.

Vidal formed his most unusual bond with Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. The two exchanged letters after Vidal’s 1998 article in Vanity Fair on “the shredding” of the Bill of Rights and their friendship inspired Edmund White’s play “Terre Haute.”

“He’s very intelligent. He’s not insane,” Vidal said of McVeigh in a 2001 interview.

Timothy McVeigh stepped out and stood up to the Industrial Military Complex Info-Entertainment fog to expose the place where American citizens struggle with and against a Oligarchy/Plutocracy that collects private information about everyone of the citizens. ( A form of government which consists of rule by an elite group who rule in their own interests, especially the accumulation of wealth and privilege. Only certain members of society have a valid voice in the government. This can reflect (but is not limited to) economic interests, a particular religious tradition, or familial rule) .The Staci was liberal compared to the National Federal Patriot Police.

If Gore Vidal can have his opinion broadcast then do I also have this freedom of speech? Engineered danger by the local government is controlled by those with money to buy power. Gore Vidal lived inside the inner circles. He was a role model for me from the time I was a young adult teenager.  He was the smartest man on the planet. The last of the great free thinking intellectuals.

Diabetes Is Alcoholism

I don’t know why Men with Diabetes flutter toward me seeking my attention? Diabetes is an addiction! An addiction to suicide, injuring themselves and anyone who gets close. Why these hampered butterflies flock over a field of imagined sugary substance is a sick sign of our times.

Addiction baggage has nothing to do with the hot womanly fiery flame that radiates in a gender dance relationship with my heart. Day in and day out, over and over again, from the rocket scientist I adored for more than five years to another who I gave my time and attention both have diabetes and hypertension.  Men with the behaviors and same medical difficulties and fists full of medications instead of inner change. Oh Steve, you are such a good man and I do miss you… but I am so finished with guys with Diabetes! The need for control stifles my flame and is oppressive to my kindling.

My Ex-husband is a practicing alcoholic. I had 20+ years in that cloud! I had to join the wives of alcoholics 12 Step program in Phoenixville, PA, to get the energetic torque to rocket into the starry milky mother and safety. I needed real torque to escape! By the way, Torque is the rotational or ‘Twisting’ effect of a force, a moment of force that is both a sensation and visible.  Torque is measured as an equivalent straight line force multiplied by the distance from the Axis Of Rotation! VaaaRrrrrrBoom …..feel the SI unit Newton-Meter, (Nm) or Imperial Unit Foot Pound of power resistance to the static heft to build up enough pressure to move forward. Change is a struggle. Change is hard work

I could not get away from the controlling abusive relationship with out the community of understanding that the group of local woman who where in the same cup of hot water as I found myself floating like the proverbial Frog. Ya’all know the story of the Frog who was in a pot of water that sat on a fire. The frog did not notice how hot the water was getting until he was Cooked.  That frog was me. I was cooked and marginalized and finally physically beaten bloody in his alcoholic haze. It was in the hospital when the detectives really brought the point out. They said that I was so badly beaten that if I did not get out of the state he would come back and finish me off. Yes That Is What I Was Actually Told! That is how hard it is to change!  Finland Beckoned: Put me on Ice: I have a deep past inheritance of a continuation of consciousnesses.

I remember dressing like this out in the reindeer herds

What the circle in the Twelve-Step Program  gave me was a Palm Tree trajectory. I was removed from the abuse by a Poet Saint who helped me pack up and drove me to Sunny California! He saved my life and I will always be in his radius of loving attention. He supported my 12 step practice.

The 12 Steps are a set of guiding principles, accepted by members as ‘spiritual principles,’  outlining a course of action for recovery from the addictions that allow abusive personal habits and actions or other behavioral problems that attract like to like.

I am here in Berkeley California the home of the Chochenyo/Huchiun band of the Ohlone people. The Indian Rock, the Shellmounds, and Palm Trees support my feet as I strive to build a new life.

This pit in the surface of a rock at Indian Rock Park is typical of those used by Ohlone Indians to grind acorns.

My Heart is fully opened to flow with the continuous stream of a body within connections to indigenous peoples. I have great respect and gratitude to the struggles and smart ingenuity they exhibit to have built the Tools modern society use as they trudge the very rocky path forward. To couple into a loving family, we need to LOVE one another fully and simply.

A New York Minute

How many New Yorkers know the definition of the New York Minute?  ‘I doono da answer to dis ’cause  New Yorkers use the phrase correctly without needing to be telling the meaning’ says the guy at Third Street deli, ‘it’s in the water’!

A New York Minute is the time between when the street light turns green and it takes you to get your car through the intersection. That is the power of a well oiled system based on trust that the safe history is constant and Trust. All the past times I drove in that quarter of nanosecond, I trusted that I had somewhere to go and the perfect clear lane to use to get going. By the way, A nanosecond (ns) is one billionth of a second (10−9 or 1/1,000,000,000s). One nanosecond is the relation of one second as an equation of one second is to 31.7 years. The Ultimate Be Here Now is A Billion To One!

Ready, Set, Stop!

I am finding that traffic in New York City is less mean spirited and more trustworthy than most human traffic. Nice people exist in about the same ratio of a Billion to One!

In the two years of my battle with breast cancer I have the eyes wide open abandonment. People run away for truth, commitment and caring. I know that so many people have experienced this same suffering.  I guess it is an unspoken aspect of illness in western society. Friendship that feels just like the changing of a traffic light!

Salomania: A Play, If You Get Past The Manager

Plays at the Aurora Theater in Berkeley CA are in the round and as such are spell binding, usually…

The current offering: Salomania, uses a verbal devise like a caveman’s club. Youtube does a better job:

Salome, sultry and attractive in a way that suggests a passionate nature.  whose name is derived from the root word ŠLM (שלם), meaning “peace” is the key.   The play remains unlocked though the key is beautiful. The story is scaled as a feminism manifesto but plods on with no feminine sway. The actors were wonderful but the script was tedious and boring.

At this theater, the real story is in the manager of this establishment, a crass Marilyn G. who found something nasty to several people as they entered the theater or asked for some seating help. Several attendees, six who I knew personally, came up to me after hearing the greeting I got upon crossing the threshold. It seems that they too have had the same poor customer service and wanted me and my companion to know that we were not alone in this sort of treatment!  Some people are just that way. I suppose it is one of the reasons Catchup was invented.

The language stood on one part of the woman’s anatomy. The word was repeated in the script until it sounded like a punishment to our senses.  Like the ‘F’ word, in what seemed less creative but looking for the effect of the Fred Durst run to use that word to bother adults.  OUCH!

The press release, you be the judge:

Award-winning Bay Area auteur Mark Jackson returns to Aurora to direct this World Premiere, specially commissioned for our 20th anniversary season. While directing Oscar Wilde’s fascinating and sensual play Salome at Aurora in 2006, Jackson discovered the extraordinary story of dancer Maud Allan, a San Francisco native who took Europe by storm in the early 1900’s with her version of the “Dance of the Seven Veils.” She became notoriously known as “The Salomé Dancer,” and was unexpectedly confronted with a lawsuit that destroyed her career. Whereas Salome was Oscar Wilde’s wild take on the infamous Biblical temptress, Salomania uses Allan’s story as a framework to explore themes of media sensationalism, freedom of expression and wartime hysteria – themes as relevant today as they were a century ago.
