Rewiring the System

FREE FOOD Saturday

How to change a neighborhood, a community , a town, city. county, state country and the globe? So many organizations really try to bring people together to get to know one another and form bonds that can actualize friendships and community caring. Our world is so segregated. How many of my neighbors do I know well enough so that when I am in need of a friendly hand or conversation can I call? People here are so isolated by fears and separations  I do not have cable or this or that digital whatever which is not real and imagined. So that people have trained themselves to be uncomfortable with their neighbors.
How can we as a society turn around the downward cycle if we are not standing together with those people who live in our proximity? Saturday around 6:30 two men, roommates, started with one pot of chille a few months ago. They did not even have a ladle. Their original sign was barely readable… Now there is a party and the neighbors bring out a covered dish which is now a gourmet feast. Love One Another! He IS creating friendships of caring through sharing food and breaking bread over conversation.
I was driving by after a strenuous day where I felt I had no power of input. I was a little marble in someone else’s game of life. It was physically and emotionally draining. Since I drive the local speed limit my peripheral vision caught the light orange sign: FREE FOOD.
It was on a nice corner across from a shop, that served as an external office, where I often got a coffee. I pulled around the corner and parked my car to take a look at what was going on and what was offered. There was a joyous group of smiling faces and a wow spread of soup to salad. I intend to cook up something delicious and bring it down next saturday so I can have a second conversation with this group of wonderful neighbors. One man brought his classical guitar!  I had the time of my life in such simplicity with such opened hearted grace in the true tradition of caring. No Baggage and nothing needed except to bring you actual real self to this great party of life.Feed those who cannot afford a whole meal by bringing what you can and together we become what we can never become alone.

Start Swimming

Through the good fortune of Nature and Nurture, I learned how to enjoy water. Swimming is it’s own special reality. Being completely comfortable in the dense wetness focuses my mind. Will swimming do that for your mind?   Sardine like I am sliding along with my society of swimmin’  humans, each swimmer is in a lane slicing along the surface. Summer is the time to join the Sardines.

Swimming is just singing along with your favorite song. The first thing is to get to know how you breathe. How long does it take for you to breathe in air and send it out of your body? I mean relaxing easy breathing. The step of being in rhythm with your easy breath is the bases of your individual singing stroke.

I remember when the idea of how long I could breath out was when I was in first grade. Every once in a long while I got to have chocolate milk. I wanted to have this experience last as long as possible. I had a straw made of hard plastic that had a figure eight and squiggles. I filled my chest and tummy with air and lifted the straw to my lips and blue out a stream to create glass circumference size bubbles. Blowing bubbles into my glass of milk has been a creative meal time activity for kids around the world.

It’s the way to start! Stand at the edge of the pool and put your arms out and hold on. Bend your knees and blow bubbles with your lips just at the top of the water surface. I suggest you do this for fifteen minutes at least with no distractions. So you can feel relaxed and knowledgeable as to the time you take to breath in and out. Once you understand this base line inner rhythm.

The rest of swimming is easy…  It is the breathing under water that creates all the tension and resistance.

The legs kicking do a count of One Two Three Four to each in and out breath. Your arms do one stroke to two kicks of your legs.

Its One Two Three Four base which can be most songs with the One and a Two melody line and off you go out of the kitchen blowing bubbles in to the great wide world of water fun!

Stones

Stones: The Stories In Our Stones

‘Be ready to let go of the life you planned to make a place for the life that is here: The life that is coming’.
~Joseph Campbell

Stones can not forget what occurred in those solid walled rooms.   The surface of the granite boulder or grain of sand, be it the Viking Celtic Rune stones widely used to describe what only their hearts did imagine, then Gladiators all fashioned and shape into implements.  These became the storyboards of that age for all time. Though everything has a flaw, the flaws seem to give the stones added strength.

The percussion used to manufacture early sharp points and the lethal edge includes the dedicated imprint of both the time of construction and the spawn from the maker. When no one was watching the flintstones were sucking up the sonic information just like a sponge.

Onyx slabs or Opal cabochons, with fiery veins, fashioned into beautifying bedizen bedazzle is permeable to sound waves.  All the flaws criss cross in a matrix song the singing out is such a rich spring breezy spreading around the world. The desire of life itself  sprouts out juicy living blossoms from seeds, some seeds even planted in rocks. The songs that grow out of those tough crags are the sweetest. They are the songs spilling out right from the heart.

Do you ever take a good long look at your walls?
This tough surface stuff holds so much constrained emotion. Just like the clap of intense interactions continue to move in our human nervous system long after the event.  Since sound charges each person or object with a striving after some effect, I react with jingle jangle or stoical silence. Sound waves continue on out to the edge of the universe. Sound keeps going in a undulating wave and never stops.

In my every in out moment of breathing, there is the possibility of attention to the task.  I can choose to pay attention to my small regular act. I can hear the air rushing past my nostrils                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             My body has a feeling with every movement of stopped motion at any point of the inhalation then the inevitable exhalation. Could my human breathing sound be  stored to be opened by an audio system yet unimagined.

Our bodies take in information and readily send it out. Stone, this hard material, which is widely used to make implements and structures, is listening to everything all the time. Double decomposition happens when at least one of the substances does not dissolve. The sound wave enters the solid and is held in the warp and woof for a specific project or purpose. The sound energy is waiting to be interpreted. When is it disclosed and by whom is the question of time. I choose to transform myself and as a sound magnet have rolled into a tight fetal position under this structural calcified Crusty Material Form in stop frame function,  communicating with my Muse.

What will I do, what is the tool be that I use to care for my inner knowledge? Inner or outer, day and night, I hear Bucky Fuller whisper in our ear, it is In /Out and not up /down. What is essential is not to be taking any of this structure for granted. This is the struggle we have to get past while we are in Night and unable to physically move

I would like to separate the Day from the Night. But I am inside the Dark, it’s ok but I am staying in here. The activities of Day are not available from my place inside this Rock.  I am left in darkness that I can only explain to you, my reader, as Night.  I hear that reference in the song, ‘Cupid Please Draw Back Your Bow’ by Amy Winehouse at Glastonbury, 2008,  Amy says, ‘ It takes a long time to get dressed but just seconds to undress.’

Most tools are constructed with a sharp edge, or a strong point, for a  percussive action along a surface. That is not possible in the Solid Night Life estranged for a time being from the other. Inside out building has to be understood as a flow of thought arrows intersecting Building  with whatever was lying around and what had to be chiseled into the shape of choice stones is the origin of  process.  When no one was watching the flintstones, glistening and sharp on the outside, the internal structures were sucking up the sonic information just like a sponge.

Everything has a flaw; the flaws seem to give the stones added strength. All the flaws crisscross, marking with crossed lines in a weave that is a method of surface production in which two distinct sets of ions that are interlaced at right angles to form a solid surface. The word ion is the transliteration of the Greek, ἰόν, which means “going”. Electron heavy molecules intersecting the Proton heavy molecules continue spinning in the dance of creation.

I am a steward of my options, the small sights and low expectations or the expansive healthy post tree structure with my eye on the goal. I am excited to see inside the network construction of solid structures. I have to have something inside, within me to help me survive the upheavals and changes that come in every year, decade, lifetime, on and on as long as the life inside stones.  Gumption is the action that makes the pebbles survive!

Singing, softly from my heart, my tune is a sent out, though not well understood, not well received, the notes are rocks on the road, pebbles moving in our atmosphere. Sound moves through, within, and around the building blocks of our world. All sounds, songs, and stories move as electronic sound from an individual alone or in a choir. The songs are enjoyed as the sound evaporates into the atmosphere. Sustained singing is a way of gathering together the variety of seeds from around the world where juicy living blossoms grow from seeds planted in rocks. The songs that grow out of those tough crags are the sweetest. They are the gifts spilling out of the stable matter, right from the heart of creation.  Do you ever take a good long look at your walls?
Sound waves continue on out to the edge of the universe. Sound keeps going in an undulating wave, which never stops. The fabric production is when two distinct sets of waves are interlaced at right angles that form a surface.

Sound is a sequence of waves made or as well as causing pressure that propagates through compressible media such as air or water. Sound can propagate through solids as well.  Sound that is perceptible by humans has frequencies from about 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. In air at, the corresponding wavelengths of sound waves range from 17 m to 17 mm.

How do the waves relate to density?  The relationship creates pressure as every noise moves is guided by the surrounding temperatures that pause to let it sink in.  It is different in air and water than wind. When the wind is moving the sound move faster. In the solid

All the concerts ever held sing out from all the walls in all the rooms in all the prized castles in the city, the rural towns, and all the countries around our globe. The stones build buildings of power.
Wondrous beauty is preserved in the molecular construction of the stone, stacked one upon another, reaching to high ceiling cell spaces. Our rooms are built for living life to the fullest and catching and holding every moment of our vibrant life.  I listen to every instant of my life. I hear, that all life is brimming with sound.

This World is not Conclusion.
A Species stands beyond –
Invisible, as Music –
But positive, as Sound –

~ Emily Dickinson

I am lovingly washing the same cup for the rest of my life!

I am a one of a kind life, a one of a kind stone, and every stone is unique, just as each person is a one of a kind. Think about each of us as a stone which is used to build a, ‘ one of a kind’ room or a one of a kind cell for this important one of a kind individual. Walls are for boundaries, confining a separate and safe space from whatever the outside forces of  both civilization and nature.    Unlike concrete, which has no long-term connection to the core of the earth, stone holds in its layers all our stories.                                                                                                                                     Concrete was widely used during the Roman Empire. For example the Coliseum was largely built of concrete. This technology did not resurface until the mid 1700 .

Stone time, taken from our molten beginning, reaches back into our global origin, it records our structural creation compounded from dust. Concrete has none of the made by Mother Nature molecular structure that retains sounds.

Sound is ‘energy in action’.  Every sound flows as undulating sign wave which does not stop waving. Sound is an unending movement in air that is forever carrying our songs and sighs of happiness and sadness out to the edges of the finite edges of space. Does space have an edge?

Sound is Energy. Just like in science class where I learned that energy is the capacity to do work, I came to understand that sound moves mountains too. Sound is also the capacity to play.  Sound is a property of any system, which diminishes when the potency moves. Doppler begins with vigor to diminish as vapor on the wind. Sound could collect in an effort of laziness often labeled as a song stuck in my head. It is funny to listen as the sound system does ‘work’.

When you flow into doing what you love it might give you the ability to make a living.

Work and Play are both an action on another system. How do you choose to label your everyday activities? Work and Play are movement.  Both are consumers of energy.   The words I choose are my way of communicating a level of gravity about each action. Time sure flies when you are having fun!

The diminution of this quality of vigorous sound in time calls to my mind the communication between the Space Station and NASA. Hello Huston, I say hello! What ‘work’ builds our bodies, what play does the same building? Both play and work builds our minds, bodies, our lives, and our structures.  Joy is the potential amount of usefulness we, each of us use in the creation of everything we think say and do and produce. Songs and stories do the heavy lifting in life. How else are we to be useful, both for our self and the many other selves?

Remembering that we were sitting still in a stone building, we constructed in our imagination, hearing the resonance bouncing off the walls of our brain, the history recorded in our breathing in and out.

In this present moment, where we are now, sitting or standing,we are able to be actively remembering that we can breath as we play and work.  We flow along with the Earth in its pushed spin around the sun.  Storms of particles bombard every material thing from the cyclic explosions on our system Sun.  Our Earth is a small dot in a small solar system in the far left arm of our spiraling galaxy.  We are stardust!  Shimmering reflections of refracted light held together by some habit pattern. We are the flow of electrical signals in a consensual harmony.  This pattern can motivate your thoughts into material forms that become the self-fulfilling prophesy. Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

The ability to act while watching the effect on both things and people is a force of leadership. When we marvel at our unlimited natural source of usable mental, emotional, and physical potential then we have a visual reference of the results of your actions.  We can see that our ‘grace in action’ blossoms from the seeds emanating from a ‘self’ we plant with every thought and step.

Watch the tension and the exertion of thought, as you generate and direct a desire, for instance. It is desire that moves us into and through life. The desire to create life and your personal desire to be born makes your world as well as the interconnectedness of all of what we call real world. A desire for comfort, or a fear of discomfort, or an anger with whatever that takes the ease and creates dis ease. Be an observer of yourself in your own life.  Breathe with your own rhythm and listen to your sound.  Hear your thoughts as you move. Move into a language made up of words you use to describe the place where you are and the place you are moving toward. The truth about life is that even if you are sitting still you are always moving.

Language is used in a way to stabilize movement toward a goal. It is specific thoughts by specific people spoken in adequate language makes a real and deep connection with our inner integrity.  Never lose sight of the story of self with value-based connection builds truth from the inside.  With the specifics, we get to match our shape of the inner small puzzle piece, who we know we are in the outer dimensions with our heart felt inner self seed.

Listen to yourself breath.  Nothing special, just listen in the position you are in and no special counting or practice, just notice how you in your natural rhythm of your inspiration and expiration. As you listen and learn how you breath you will listen to Nature differently. Not the birds tweeting or the trucks traveling but the silence generating the power of our natural world.  This will allow you to hear the breathing patterns of those people in your close personal proximity.

Start to pour your whole heart out in to yourself without putting up any walls. Let your breath fill you with air and bring you life just as air did in your first intake when you were born.  You may not remember that first breath but just for this moment, act as if you do.  You have seen pictures of the Birth Professional, whether it is a doctor or midwife or family member, hold a newborn upside down and give a gentle pat on the back to inspire aspiration.  Go back to that moment using your creative imagination and breathe as though you are upside down and it was your first breath, your first breath every time.

Now we can dance with this energy of our choice to live. We are jiggling with sizzle and flow inside our skin and overflowing with passion. The oxygen carries the ‘stuff’ our brain needs to send signals throughout the body.  More oxygen more mental action more mental action more success in whatever we want to accomplish.  Without deep movement of oxygen, our choices are not in character with the reason we are here at this moment to make a choice.

As shallow breathers, we will now notice that our minds, hearts, and bodies are or get depleted due to improper exchange of good gasses for refuse gasses. We are making unconscious choices.  Choose or loose suddenly means choosing at every nanu second in every intersection of all the directions on all the points of the compass of possibility.   I know that understanding every second of my life is a great place to make my choice.  I can feel my bottom on the seat right now. With the slight movement of air on my face and now I know where I am.  It is in this grounded presence that I can choose what to think, feel, using all my senses and move with a sense of poise and clarity. This is a great beginners step in making real choices using your heart as a compass.
The World usually sees a Compass as an external navigation instrument. It finds directions on the Earth based on a pointer aligning itself with the global magnetic field. For a short time let us each use our Heart to find the magnetic connections in Nature with all life forms, including the connections with other people. Using our hearts and thinking of choice as points on a compass opens up seeing many variations on a theme.

Choice is an important mirror in which to see you.  Look long into this mirror and give it the label, ‘My Choice’. See yourself as a collection of choices that you built, brick by brick, out of decisions mixed with actions, choice by choice, into this body, mind and emotions.

It is your ability to choose anger over understanding in relations with friends, family, or as you travel on the highways of life. To see yourself clearly, to see the truth of life itself as you look at your thoughts, words, and actions and see this as a real life mirror.  To see that as you choose you have the power of a true creator.  True vision cannot become a method to accomplished true choice in an instant or a second, or in a minute, or in one day!  It is an effort to truly be yourself and enjoy the trip that will unite the seconds into a necklace of such beauty that you will stand in breathing and marvel.  People will be attracted to you and your ideas and offer their energy to build this harmonious project, whatever it might be, together to change your world.
How have we lost the ability to choose?  Why did we bury our ability for truth?  When did so many brush aside ‘truth’ to such a point, that each of us, as a human biped, has lost touch with our inner truth.  What we really want to choose in life struggles to reach the surface from within a dustbin built in our core.

Take the opportunity to live your life out-loud. Take a frog and make him/her into a prince or princess!

Live out-loud without external stimulation of caffeine.  Adrenal exhaustion is a build up of old anger.  That extra cup of coffee sends acid along with the caffeine, all through your biology and pumped through your nerves into your brain.  Give up the baggage!
Live with loving attention to your body.  Get up and go for a walk, a swim or a dance to bring fresh oxygen and its handmaiden the added energy you need as you sing and dance and listen to all the people in your ever-widening circle.

Family

The three of us were sitting in the sunny booth in Sconehenge.  I had devoured the chili relleno while sitting next to my daughter and across the street across the table from her father. More beautiful than the delicious morsels is the immortality of  better relations between the generations.

It was, looking over the time, after all those years, my actions and not the words of my instructions and reprimands that molded my child. It is the beginning of a Legend, “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.”  So many people have children while being afraid to have fun building the next generation. The Helicopter Mom or the Asian Tiger are popular manifestations of this doubt and fear. Why not look and listen to the young human in your midst and help this youngster grow believing this world is a good and safe place.

What To Say About The Holiday Spirit

What to say to people at this season of flaunting religiosity?

I like to include the entire person I am speaking with so I say, “I honor you”.  I honor others beliefs, what ever corner of their heart or the world they come from. I might learn some special facet of this man or woman!   I hope to do this with a quiet warmth and well mannered grace, a quiet quality that creates a container of quiet for the other person to fill with his or her story.  Then when the right  moment occurs I might say that I am a JewBuQuackAPrestarianChrisIsm.
Then the conversation in no longer confrontational. It is fun to be opened to life though I might be too exotic to be included in a circle of friendship, where people are a group who all believe the same thing. But I was true to myself. And as I broadened the idea of what is the true holiday conversation, I am not feeling bad.

My friends are not all like me. I look for and like people as they really are and offer my gift of friendship
smile, in recognition that the tiresome overused language that cloth infinity would only build a concrete boundary.

I look forward to Festivus For The Rest Of Us! With the Airing of Grievances, the undecorated poll, and giving wrapped stuff you have in the house that you do not want! What an idea. Topping the experience with meat loaf and spaghetti and ‘red sauce’ and drakes cakes makes this a power preserve day of fun.
just sayin’

AAhhh, It’s a Festivus Miracle!!! The ‘rest of us’ need Festivus!

Need an alternative to the usual Xmas fare? Then create a party or join others to celebrate, “Festivus,” a holiday for the “Rest of Us.”

The origins of this alternative holiday tradition can be dated back to an episode of Seinfeld titled “The Strike”. In this episode Frank Costanza expresses a concern over the increased commercialism and consumerism that tends to saturate the December holiday season.

Sound Waves In Stones

Nothing you ever say is lost. Every word, ( you say out loud), continues to move across the vast stretches of time and space. Some sounds are stored in the surrounding solid matter before some of the sonic vibration bounces and continues out through the star dust. My daughter read the following pages and asked me, ‘What is your point?’  So I answer, ‘sound is the most powerful force in the nature system ‘. It is the waves that move matter. The Boom might come after our sight of lightening in the sky, but the lightening is a flash of magnetism, attracting particles and the sound continues to move through all molecules.

SILENCE is to be considered more carefully.

‘Be ready to let go of the life you planned to make a place for the life that is here: The life that is coming’. ~  Joseph Campbell

His work is vast, covering many aspects of the human experience. His philosophy is often summarized by his phrase: “Follow your bliss.”

Stones do not forget what occurred in the stone walled rooms.  Do you ever take a good long look at your walls?

Sound waves continue on out to the edge of the universe. Sound keeps going in a undulating wave and never stops.  A drum produces sound via a vibrating membrane.

Boom Boom BOOM

All the concerts ever held in this room sing out from all the walls in all the rooms in all the prized castles in the city, the rural towns, and all the countries around our globe. The walls absorb sound. The stones build buildings of power.

Lovingly Washing The Same Plate For The Rest Of My Life

I am lovingly washing the same cup, saucer, plate, and bowl, for the rest of my life!

The perception of sound in any organism is limited to a certain range of frequencies. For humans, hearing is normally limited to frequencies between about 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz (20 kHz)

Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard  {Physics of sound , Spherical compression waves  The mechanical vibrations that can be interpreted as sound are able to travel through all forms of matter: gases, liquids, solids, and plasmas. The matter that supports the sound is called the medium. Sound cannot travel through a vacuum.  Longitudinal and transverse waves  Sound is transmitted through gases, plasma, and liquids as longitudinal waves, also called compression waves. Through solids, however, it can be transmitted as both longitudinal waves and transverse waves. Longitudinal sound waves are waves of alternating pressure deviations from the equilibrium pressure, causing local regions of compression and rarefaction, while transverse waves (in solids) are waves of alternating shear stress at right angle to the direction of propagation.

Matter in the medium is periodically displaced by a sound wave, and thus oscillates. The energy carried by the sound wave converts back and forth between the potential energy of the extra compression (in case of longitudinal waves) or lateral displacement strain (in case of transverse waves) of the matter and the kinetic energy of the oscillations of the medium. Sound wave properties and characteristics: Sinusoidal waves of various frequencies; the bottom waves have higher frequencies than those above. The horizontal axis represents time. Sound waves are often simplified to a description in terms of sinusoidal plane waves, which are characterized by generic properties Frequency, or its inverse.}

Meaning Of Life: Don’t Worry Be Happy

I am watching a PBS show on KQED . Listening to the struggle of people trying to say something from their own understanding… So much of what people say comes from the domineering separateness drawn out of the training from religion people get either early in their lives or picked up as a reaction to that early seed training.

The truth is that the meaning of life is to acknowledge our material nature which is motivated by LOVE. So the meaning of life is DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY

In a way what Jonas Salk said , What is important is the Survival of the Wisest. His life with  and how he gave love and complete freedom to his second wife, Francoise Gilot at the level of natural potentiality without dualism.

Françoise Gilot
                                                                                                               Together With Strength
Françoise Gilot is a French painter and bestselling author. She is also known as the lover and artistic muse of Pablo Picasso from 1944 to 1953, and the mother of his children, Claude Picasso and Paloma Picasso. Wikipedia
Born: November 26, 1921 (age 90), Paris
Spouse: Jonas Salk (m. 1970–1995)

No matter what each one in the relationship achieved together they had support that was a unity. A unit of Love In Action. We are all part of the Nature… So the meaning within this Nature, we are commanded to relax and not worry, stop being afraid of the inner turmoil, the fear of connecting with another person and be the person you are born to BE!

Don’t Worry and Be Happy, Not Just Once, But Every Moment Of Every Day

As you walk with me, be the foot prints, those deep footprints in the shifting sands of life, that leave an impression in my heart, this is the intimate part of happiness.

A Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, a perfect man and a perfect woman met.  After a perfect courtship they had a perfect wedding.  Their life together was, of course, perfect.  One snowy, stormy Christmas Eve, this perfect couple was driving their perfect car along a winding road when they noticed someone up ahead in distress.  Being the perfect couple, they stopped to help.  There stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys.

Father Christmas Santa Claus

Not wanting to disappoint children on the eve of Christmas, the perfect couple loaded Santa and his toys into their car.  Soon they were driving along delivering toys.  Unfortunately, driving conditions deteriorated and the perfect couple and Santa were in a terrible accident.  Only one of the three survived.  Who was the survivor?

Archangel Surviving Accidents

The perfect woman survived.  She’s the only one who really existed in the first place. Everyone knows there is no Santa Claus and there is no such thing as a perfect man. So, if there is no perfect man and no Santa Claus, the perfect woman must have been driving.  This explains why there was an accident!

Creative People have an expansive way of seeing which shoes us all a broader way of seeing ordinary things. Creative People can also be defined as the process of seeing, hearing, making, and using their mind and consciousness in producing something that is both original and worthwhile.

Today I had two wonderful experiences in the flow of life. I was electrified when a young, developmentally delayed, boy spoke to me. He stopped in the entrance of the building and looked down the long perpendicular hall going to apartments and said, ‘ It looks like a tunnel’. It is true it does have a long variously lite quality which to an artists eye would be beautiful. It is a enclosed space with an air of grace. The young creative mind of this intellectually blocked brain sees beauty as he moves through life.

My Hallway
A fresh creative eye sees something special in a traditional hall and his speaking brought delight to me. I feel less intelligent people are often not respected for the heightened awareness they bring into every conversation. I imagine that his Mother must have a heart breaking ordeal with every day aspects of life in a society that has not allowed this Mother to have the time to delight in her sons differences.
Creativity refers to the invention or origination of any new thing (a product, solution, artwork, literary work, joke, etc.) that has value. “New” may refer to the individual creator or the society or domain within which novelty occurs. “Valuable”, similarly, may be defined in a variety of ways. Are we surrounded by clouds and mists which prevent us from enjoying our lives in every day actions?
Today Is the special occasion that Korea was Liberated from the 35 year Japanese Colonial Occupation. The people of Korea were conscripted into labor in order to support life often in roofless corrugated structures with no running water. Confined space with limited access to basic needs. The Korans had to buy back their land from the Japanese Occupiers. Least we ever forget. Our Hearts are restless though we live in a new day as we search for what we Love.

Parkway Program

I remember Len!  He is a tall thin black man who always had a wise comment and a great uplifting smile. He was in my circle of friends. There were many smiling faces around the Parkway Program High School.

It was an experiment in education as a series of many school centers without a building.  A High School without a High School Building! How could that function?

The Teachers were hired because of their creativity and abilities to be great teachers and flow into a program where they each had to find space in the City Of Philadelphia where they could host their classes for the entire semester of year. I was invited to teach by one of the hired Principle’s, who introduced me to, and to be interviewed by John Bremer. Dr Bremer came up with the concept of using the city as a classroom.

Here I want to include the Wikipedia Page:

John Bremer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

John Bremer is an internationally-known educator and Socratic philosopher who has been professionally involved with education and teaching for more than half a century. Now in his elder years, in 2008 he retired as a senior scholar teaching at Cambridge College in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he was Professor of Humanities and Director of the College’s Humanities and Freedom Institute. Professor Bremer founded Cambridge College in 1971 when it was then known as the “Institute of Open Education” at Newton College of the Sacred Heart. He now lives full time in Vermont where he continues his research and writing.

John Bremer was born in England, living in London during The Blitz, and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II building airfields in England. He holds advanced degrees from the Pembroke College, Cambridge, England, the University of Leicester and St. John’s College, U.S.. Professor Bremer came to the USA in 1951 on a Fulbright Fellowship.

In the 1960s Professor Bremer gained international recognition for creating the Parkway Program, in Philadelphia, the first School Without Walls as documented in a book by the same name. The school was featured in Time Magazine in its March 23, 1970 edition.[1]

He was Killam Senior Fellow at Dalhousie University in Halifax and later Commissioner of Education for British Columbia, Canada in 1973.

In 1975, when a professor of Education at Western Washington University he founded the Institute of Socratic Study where Professor Bremer was its director until he moved to Australia in 1980 to found the Education Supplement for The Australian newspaper.

I sat with Dr Bremer and felt the clear insightful gaze as he questioned me as to what I would bring to The Program. I told him that I had an idea for a class that taught Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic, that used Art Projects instead of written papers as assigned homework.  I called the class: Creative Conceptual Conjecture. I would offer it to all of the High Schools for the junior and senior grades.

We would read The Joseph Campbell book on Myths, The Act Of Creation: Arthur Koestler. (It is a study of the process of discovery, invention, imagination, and creativity in humor, science, and the arts. It laid out Koestler’s attempt to develop an elaborate general theory of Human Creativity). There was a book on color theory and human emotions that came with a set of odd color cards. Dr Bremer liked my idea and I was sent on to get a teachers copy of three of the books I wanted accompanied by the Principle of the Alpha High School.

There was Alpha, the first school of the lottery selection sites. The City Of Philadelphia High Schools were given lottery applications and the students were chosen by chance draw like a big bingo game.

Beta and Delta Schools followed. Each of the schools had a brick and mortar site which functioned as a homeroom. The sort of site where teachers had a cubbyhole for mail, where they had meetings and where the students could mill around and do some bumping into one another as they collect themselves and collect themselves and one another. It was a place where young adults could meet people who might not be taking the same classes yet were part of the new school system.

Does anyone of the alum’s remember who they were then and appreciate the magic?  Do people leave their high school teen times, and places, like smoke and dissipate?  I do not believe that the exposure to Parkway evaporates as people mature. If anything the classroom with out walls builds a ‘gee wiz’ attitude to future experiences thorough out an entire life.

Is giving up and forgetting as much of the past a usual practice, is it a life diminishing to support minimal functioning as sanity saving grace? Or is all the convenience of grace and imagination, in a expansive education, which when I am in the need of grace, helps me to stand when all things want me to lie down. Creative thinking is a boat that always gets each of us to the other side of any problem.

Though my educational roots grew elsewhere, I blossomed in a group that included Richard C. We rented a stone mansion along the Wissahickon Creek.  I was teaching at the Parkway Program and at the High School for Girls, so I could get the lease. We called the commune Bum Fuck Egypt that morphed in to the Island of The Red Hood. The house had five bedrooms. I had the master bedroom with the two big windows facing the street.  Richard lived in another room with M.H. in our wonderful commune, which we gave the Lenny Bruce banner bonhomie, Bum Fuck Egypt. It was this same Richard is who brought me to the Island of the Red Hood in Hinton West Virginia; Len might have been part of that group.  Poets, patricians, politicos, true and wannabee artists, writers, and antique dealers called Island of the Red Hood home.  They all were involved in being in an out of the way part of the world where drugs and dalliances might flourish in privacy. Those were the days at the dawn of the Age of Aquarius.

I taught painting, English and a class called Creative Conceptual Conjecture… the painting class was in the original Tower Theater Rock and Roll cavern that sat a thousand people. This is where I saw the Who. I was sitting on the second row of wooden backless benches.  English class met in an office meeting room on the second floor of a fancy stationary, pen and paper store on either Chestnut or Walnut Street and ‘Creative Conceptual Conjecture’ in my own painting studio.  My first studio on the third or first floor walk up on  40 hundred block of Spruce St and then in a bigger place on 42nd St and Samson. Rob took a picture from one of the first days of class.
